Easy To Grow 6 ft Tall Tomatoes

Beautiful tomato plants, over 6ft tall and still growing!

Growing tomatoes can be challenging for many people. Over time, I've picked up a few tips that I'd like to share with you. Believe me, I still face difficulties, but these tips have proven effective. We plant in raised beds, layering cardboard, sticks, straw, and then soil. The first year our tomatoes did okay, but nothing exceptional.

The following year, we incorporated super soil from the nursery into every bed. All I can say is WOW! That year, our tomato plants grew over 7 feet tall. We had to stack cages to support them. Needless to say, we bought a roll of 12 gauge heavy-duty cattle panels and constructed new tomato cages. We zip tied them together.

The first suggestion is to use super soil, which many of you are likely already familiar with. The second suggestion focuses on your watering technique.

As you can see I added my water bottle about 6"-8" away from the root of my tomato plant.

I add these when I first plant. This is the only way I water.

I start with a 20-ounce Coke or water bottle. I cut off the bottom and bury it upside down next to my plant, leaving the lid off. If the water backs up immediately and doesn't drain, lift the bottle slightly. This will solve the issue, which occurs if the bottle's bottom opening is clogged with dirt.

This method reduces the frequency of watering. Additionally, it helps prevent blight by keeping water from splashing onto the plant.

I've used this watering technique for years, and my tomatoes have never suffered from blight. There you have it, my two tips for growing an abundance of beautiful tomatoes.
